Complications

If one considers that about 85% of adults in the U.S. have gambled at least once in their lives, it becomes obvious that gambling and problem gambling have far reaching and serious implications indeed.

The gambling industry generates huge amounts of revenue, and gambling has been used throughout history to fund large-scale projects. As long as one stays within reasonable boundaries, there’s nothing wrong with the whole concept. Problem gamblers however, cross the limits of reason, and literally turn their lives upside down on account of this impulse-control disorder.

For the individual caught up in this unforgiving dance, the complications are numerous and often fatal.

On the psychological level, a problem gambler will grow increasingly isolated, sooner or later will sever bonds even with the closest members of his/her family. As gambling grows into an obsession, the problem soon becomes a pathological one.

On a financial level, the problem gambler is guaranteed to run into extremely complicated problems, which will in turn, further fuel the psychological complications. This is where the true evil of the whole setup lies.

Untreated problem gamblers will often resort to suicide as the downward spiral of problems they embark on only leaves room for such an unfortunate outcome.
