Casino Games
Most gamblers are aware of the fact that all casino games come with a house edge, which makes each and every one of these games a negative expected value one in the long-run. That still doesn’t deter anyone from playing, because the variation (even though you’re certain to lose a little money in the long-run, you may still win a huge bet or even several of them in a row anytime) gives them a short term possibility to take down some fabulous winnings.
The house edge is usually a small percentage on most casino games (only a few percents on slots, Video Poker and Blackjack, a tad more on roulette, but it can be as high as 60% on games like Keno.), and from a strictly mathematical point of view, it is the only factor that generates revenue for the house.
In practice however, things are quite a bit different. The house drop is what the house really counts on for its money. The house drop is much bigger than the house edge, and it is generated by sloppy play, by tourist spins and by players who know nothing about the game they’re playing.
As a casino gambler, there’s not much you can do about the house edge. You can however aim to completely eliminate the house drop and thus better your odds.
This is why it’s very important that you be properly informed on every aspect of a game you intend to play. Basic strategy can help loads in this respect. Take blackjack for instance. Using proper basic strategy will not only eliminate the house drop, it’ll take a chunk out of the house edge too.
At the roulette table, certain bets carry bigger house-edges than others. Knowing exactly what’s what is extremely important when placing your bets.
You should never be sloppy about your casino gambling, whether you play online or in a land based casino. Time spent on studying the different games is always a good investment even if there is a house edge on all of them.
